Aldie, VA Interior Designer

Aldie is located between the cities of Chantilly and Middleburg in Loudoun County, Virginia. The area was settled in 1765 when James and George Mercer established a mill at the location of the present historic edifice. In 1811, a post office had been established in the village. The area has many historical landmarks. However, Aldie’s most famous resident and historical monument was President James Monroe, who constructed his private residence at Oak Hill in 1822.

The Aldie Volunteer Fire Department – The Aldie Volunteer Fire Department is dedicated to protecting the property and lives of the citizens in the Aldie, Va area. The Fire Department works within 43 square miles, with approximately half of this area being mountain and wildland area.

The National Sporting Library & Museum – The National Sporting Library & Museum in Middleburg, Virginia, is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and sharing the literature, art, and culture of equestrian, angling, and field sports.

Aldie Mill was built between 1807 and 1809 for Charles Fenton Mercer, a prominent statesman, who took commercial advantage of the nearby Little River and proximity to three major turnpikes. It was an active hub of the community that consisted of a merchant mill, country mill, and granary, has Virginia’s only known tandem water wheels. During the Civil War, the mill provided grain for both Federal and Confederate troops. President James Monroe was an early customer while living in nearby Oak Hill.
